5-in-1 drinking game review
The 5-in-1 Drinking Game deck of cards by C-Student is a simple concept. It is a 54 set of standard poker size playing cards. the cards are divided into four sections much like a game of trivial pursuit and each color represents a different drinking game. If you would like to play a drinking game you simply stick with one color and follow what the card that you choose says.

Design

The cards are designed for practicality more than style. The four colors are easily distinguishable and the rules are big and clear for easy readability. The name of each game is printed behind the rules which provides a little texture and adds a little character to the cards. The back design is a cool black and white picture of a college party with a transparent orange and sports the line “The Party Takes Priority”, it’s a clever nod to the company’s name (C-Student) implying that grades aren’t the priority of the college experience.

Ultimately this deck isn’t going to win any design awards but it’s not trying to. The card design serves it’s purpose and allows the drinking games to be accurately played even after you’ve been playing said games a little too long.

5-in-1-drinking-game-exampleQuality

The cards are standard poker-size 2.5″x3.5″ premium casino cardstock. The plastic coating makes the cards highly resistant to water or other spilled fluids, an important trait considering the nature of the games (drinking games for messy college students). The deck comes in a clear, hard plastic case, nothing special to look at but it protects the cards and keeps them together nicely.

Practicality

The deck comes with 4 built in drinking games. The 5th game comes from the fact that the cards also work as a standard deck of cards with 4 suits and 13 values. Each of the drinking games are a fun way and provide a good excuse to gather a group around a table or playing area. The rules on the cards will remind you of what to do once you know the game but some prior knowledge is required to play. The deck comes with a list of the rules for all the games and they are all simple enough that once you play through a round you will have it down pat.

Where can you get them?

The 5-in-1 drinking game card set was unsuccessful on Kickstarter and therefore was never produced in high quantities. However if you like C-Student on Facebook and send them a message with your email they will generously send you everything you need including step by step instructions on how to order you own deck.

Black Book of Cards Review
The Black Book of Cards is a playing card deck made up of 52 playing cards, two jokers, as well as two cards that assign you a personal card based on your birthday. Also available in the Kickstarter campaign are art prints of the various card faces, limited edition wax sealed decks, and a portofino case.

I only received the standard Black Book of Cards with no special editions or casing.

Functionality

Printed on BeeĀ® casino card stock, the Black Book of Cards includes all of the cards that a standard deck of cards comes with and can therefore can be used to play all the same games. This is a high quality deck of cards that is a smooth shuffle and resistant to moisture though not fully water proof. The cards are hard to read at a glance. I’ve tried playing poker with these cards and it proved difficult because of the black and white color scheme. Not only are all the suits the same color but the type pattern design makes it tough to read the value of the cards placed on the table.

The Black Book of Cards also come with a pair of cards that allow you to find out what your ‘birthday card’ is. This serves a similar purpose as the common practiced astrology, which is a long-winded way of saying nothing really, but they satisfy a brief curiosity.

Design

Black Book of Cards Design ReviewThese cards were designed as pieces of art, and in that sense, they are a huge success. The practical flaws are made up for with how good these cards look. Each and every card face is meticulously designed with a Highway Gothic font shaped and crafted to articulate the suit and value of the card. The backside of the cards sport a black wood finish which compliments the busy faces.

The deck comes in a tuck case made up to look like a black leather book. It has a neat texture to add to to illusion of leather and the spine is printed as book pages.

Where Can You Buy Them?

The official Kickstarter campaign for The Black Book of Cards has ended though due to it’s success you can buy your own deck at www.TheBlackBookofCards.com
